Solutions for DNS Security
Because every smart phone, desktop, tablet, laptop and Internet-of-Things (IoT) device starts every connection with it, there is no end to the metaphors that one might use to describe the importance of Domain Name Services, or DNS, to the global Internet:
- The pulse of the Internet
- The nervous system of the Internet
But Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web said,
The Domain Name Server (DNS) is the Achilles heel of the Web. The important thing is that it’s managed responsibly.
The Achilles heel reference is Tim Berners-Lee’s acknowledgement that DNS was architected before the advent of hackers, hacktivists, and various threat actors around the world. DNS protocol weaknesses are ripe for exploit, and they are exploited. His mention of managed responsibly refers to the need to operate DNS correctly, including, and perhaps most importantly, protecting DNS from the bad guys.
No other single vendor can provide the combination of both DNS-specific protections and using DNS to thwart advanced malware.
