LookingGlass CTO, Allan Thomson Receives OASIS Distinguished Contributor Award for Commitment to Open Standards in Threat Intelligence

RESTON, Va.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–LookingGlass® Cyber Solutions, a leader in threat intelligence-driven security, today announced that the company’s Chief Technology Officer, Allan Thomson, has received the OASIS Distinguished Contributor Award for his significant contributions to the advancement of open standards. The award was presented at the historic Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House in New York City on June 22, 2017.

The Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS) is a nonprofit consortium that drives the development, convergence and adoption of open standards for the global information society. Thomson is an active member of the OASIS Cyber Threat Intelligence Technical Committee and co-chairs the Interoperability Subcommittee. He is earnestly engaged in the community effort to define STIX 2.0 (Structured Threat Information Expressions) and TAXII 2.0 (Trusted Automated Exchange of Indicator Information) with the ultimate goal of facilitating the sharing of threat intelligence using open standards.

“I am honored to receive the Distinguished Contributor Award from OASIS,” said Thomson. “STIX 2.0 is a significant step towards supporting Threat Intelligence based security systems to share threat data effectively and efficiently and I look forward to continuing the work with OASIS members and partners.”

In February, LookingGlass’ scoutPRIME™ platform successfully became the first Threat Intelligence Platform (TIP) to implement the emerging STIX 2.0 standard. With this implementation, LookingGlass affirmed its commitment to providing mature cybersecurity standards and sharing information with partners and the worldwide community. Using STIX 2.0, users can share collected threat data with colleagues in their business sector, across industries, or with other organizations using this open standard and easily receive new information collected and analyzed by those same outside partners.

“We are proud to have executives of Allan’s caliber driving LookingGlass to serve global enterprises and government agencies to achieve their cybersecurity and intelligence objectives,” said LookingGlass CEO, Chris Coleman. “Commitment from industry leaders like Allan, who exhibit intense drive and dedication to the cause, have supported LookingGlass in our pledge to forward the sharing of threat intelligence using OASIS standards. Without this level of ambition the progress we see today would not have been possible.”

OASIS promotes industry consensus and produces worldwide standards for security, Internet of Things, cloud computing, energy, content technologies, emergency management, and other areas. OASIS open standards offer the potential to lower cost, stimulate innovation, grow global markets, and protect the right of free choice of technology. LookingGlass firmly believes in open standards and threat sharing and as STIX and other standards continue to evolve and advance, Thomson and LookingGlass will continue to integrate sharing support into their product and service offerings.
