The following data offers a snapshot into the weekly trends of the top industries being targeted by phishingPhishing: The fraudulent practice of sending emails purporting to be from reputable companies in order to induce individuals to reveal personal information, such as passwords and credit card numbers. attacks from February 4 – 10, 2018.

Top 20 Phishing Targets

This week, we saw a minimal decrease in overall phishing activity – 3% – for the top 20 brands we monitor. With the largest increase in activity being from Telecommunications and the largest decrease being from eCommerce.

The top 5 industries that saw increases in phishing activity:

  1. Telecommunications(>85%)
  2. Social Networking (>45%)
  3. Internet Information Services (>40%)
  4. Electronic Payment Systems (>20%)
  5. Computer Hardware (>15%)

 

The top 4 industries that saw decreases in phishing activity this week: 

  1. eCommerce (>100%)
  2. Storage and Systems Management Software (>35%)
  3. Computer Software (>35%)
  4. Internet Search & Navigation Services  (>30%)

 

By pulling information from major Internet Service Providers (ISP), partners, clients, feeds, and our own proprietary honey pots and web crawlers, we are able to get a 360-degree view of the phishing landscape. The percentages posted are based on the sum of the phishing threats of the top 20 brands, and do not include anything below the top 20 threshold.
