The following data offers a snapshot into the weekly trends of the top industries being targeted by Phishing: The fraudulent practice of sending emails purporting to be from reputable companies in order to induce individuals to reveal personal information, such as passwords and credit card numbers. attacks for the week of June 11 – June 17, 2017.
This week, 10 brands in the Banking sector made it to the top 20 list of phishing targets.
This week, we saw an overall >5% decrease in phishing activity. Electronic Payment Systems (>25%), Computer Hardware (>25%), and Internet and Information Systems (>20%) saw the largest decreases.
Only two industries saw significant increases: Telecommunications (>55%) and Banking (>10%).
By pulling information from major Internet Service Providers (ISP), partners, clients, feeds, and our own proprietary honey pots and web crawlers, we are able to get a 360-degree vide of the phishing landscape. The percentages posted are based on the sum of the phishing threats of the top 20 brands, and do not include anything below the top 20 threshold.
