The following data offers a snapshot into the weekly trends of the top industries being targeted by phishing attacks from January 21 – 27 2018.

Top 20 Phishing Targets in 2018

This week, we saw an increase in overall phishing activity – 20% – for the top 20 brands we monitor. With the largest increase in activity being from Telecommunicastions and the largest decrease being from Computer Software. Only two industries saw a decrease in phishing this week.

The top 5 industries that saw an increase in phishing activity this week:

  1. Telecommunications (>100%)
  2. Banking (>65%)
  3. Computer Hardware (>45%)
  4. Social Networking (>40%)
  5. Electronic Payment Systems (>35%)


Only two industries saw decreases in phishing activity this week: 

  1. Computer Software (>42%)
  2. Internet Search and Navigation Services (>18%)


By pulling information from major Internet Service Providers (ISP), partners, clients, feeds, and our own proprietary honey pots and web crawlers, we are able to get a 360-degree view of the phishing landscape. The percentages posted are based on the sum of the phishing threats of the top 20 brands, and do not include anything below the top 20 threshold.
