The following data offers a snapshot into the weekly trends of the top industries being targeted by phishingPhishing: The fraudulent practice of sending emails purporting to be from reputable companies in order to induce individuals to reveal personal information, such as passwords and credit card numbers. attacks for the week of January 22 – January 28, 2017.

Weekly Phishing Activity: January 30, 2017

For this week’s phishing stats, 3 industries saw increases of >100% in phishing threats.

This week in phishing activity, we saw a >85% increase in overall phishing activity for the top 20 brands we’re tracking, grouped by industry. Internet Search & Navigation Services saw the biggest increase at >305%, followed by eCommerce at >260% and Storage & System Management at >235%.

Only three industries saw decreases: Dating Sites (>10%), Banking (>5%), and Internet & Information Services (>2%).

Our Phishing Report offers a snapshot into the weekly trends of the top industries that are being targeted by phishing attacks. By pulling information from major ISPs, partners, clients, feeds, and our own proprietary honeypots and web crawlers, we are able to get a 360-degree view of the phishing landscape. The percentages posted on our blog are based on the sum of the phishing threats of the top 20 brands, and do not include anything below the top 20 threshold.
