The following data offers a snapshot into the weekly trends of the top industries being targeted by phishingPhishing: The fraudulent practice of sending emails purporting to be from reputable companies in order to induce individuals to reveal personal information, such as passwords and credit card numbers. attacks for the week of April 23 – April 29, 2017.

LookingGlass Weekly Phishing Activity: May 1, 2017This week, we saw an increase in phishing activity for the top 20 brands we’re tracking, grouped by industry. Overall activity decreased >25%. The biggest decrease was in Electronic Payment Systems at >45%, followed by Internet Search & Navigation Services at >30% and Banking at >30%.

Increases in phishing activity included: eCommerce (>85%), Telecommunications (>35%) and Dating Sites (>15%).

The percentages posted on our blog are based on the sum of the phishing threats of the top 20 brands, and do not include anything below the top 20 threshold.
