The following data offers a snapshot into the weekly trends of the top industries being targeted by Phishing: The fraudulent practice of sending emails purporting to be from reputable companies in order to induce individuals to reveal personal information, such as passwords and credit card numbers. attacks for the week of January 15 – January 21, 2017.
Electronic Payment Systems and Internet Search & Navigation Services saw similar amount of phishing activity this week.
This week in phishing activity, we saw a >35% decrease in overall phishing activity for the top 20 brands we’re tracking, grouped by industry. Internet and Information Services saw the biggest decrease at >70%, followed by Internet Search & Navigation Services at >20% and Electronic Payment Systems at >20%.
Notably, Social Networks saw a >120% increase in overall phishing activity. Other industries with increases include Storage & Systems Management Software at >15% and Dating Sites at >5%.
