The following data offers a snapshot into the weekly trends of the top industries being targeted by Phishing: The fraudulent practice of sending emails purporting to be from reputable companies in order to induce individuals to reveal personal information, such as passwords and credit card numbers. attacks for the week of January 8 – January 14, 2017.
This week, two industries – Internet Information Services and Internet Search & Navigation Services – made over half of the chart, making them the top two sector to be targeted by phishing attack.
This week in phishing activity, we saw a >50% increase in overall phishing activity for the top 20 brands we’re tracking, grouped by industry. Internet Search and Navigation Services saw the biggest increase at >105%, followed by Internet and Information Services at >85% and Telecommunications at >65%.
The industries with the biggest decreases in activity were Social Networks (>40%), eCommerce (>15%), and Computer Hardware (>10%).
